"The best land restitution & development model in South Africa."
The community settled in the Mabula area in the 1800's and possessed informal occupational
rights to the land.
In 1910 the land was forcibly removed from the community and occupied by whites.
The community was subjugated and reduced to be labourers on their ancestral land.
As a result of the harsh treatment from white farm owners, members of the community left
the land in the 1960's.
In 1998, Mr MA Mabuela lodged a land claim on behalf of the community which was accepted by the Land Claims Commision and published in the Government gazette in November 2003.
Since 2008, over 6000 heactares of land have been restored to the community.
In order to ensure sustainability as well as skills transfer to the Community, the Community entered into a partnership with Dr DJL Snyman, a previous landowner and commercial farmer.
They established Mahlohomolo Investments (Pty) Ltd in which the community is the majority shareholder.
In 2010 the implementation of the Community Food Programme was established, whereby over 2000 beneficiaries receive food each month.
